Due to the quick development and widespread adoption of its marketplace solutions, Capitolis, the tech firm that is rethinking capital markets, today revealed that it has secured a $110 million Series D at a $1.6 billion value. Leading fintech investors 8 Ventures, 9Yards Capital, and SVB Capital are co-leading the fundraising effort. A16z, Index Ventures, Sequoia Capital, S Capital, Spark Capital, Citi, State Street, and J.P. Morgan are a few of the investors in Capitolis. Capitolis has so far raised $280 million.

In association with the fundraising round, George Osborne, Founding Partner at 9Yards, Dan Beldy, Senior Advisor at Canapi Ventures, and Jeffrey Goldstein join the Capitolis Board of Directors. All of them provide strong capabilities in banking policy, regulatory reform, and economic stabilization, as well as in-depth knowledge of financial services and technology. Former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Osborne previously advised BlackRock; Goldstein, a member of the Board of Directors of Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, previously held the positions of Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of the World Bank; and Beldy, a co-founder of Canapi Ventures and a former Managing Director of Steamboat Ventures, The Walt Disney Company’s venture capital arm.

Gene Ludwig and Chip Mahan, who are also Managing Partners, co-direct Canapi Ventures. Prior to co-founding Promontory Interfinancial Network, an FDIC deposit-routing system that serves about 2,900 financial institutions, and Promontory Financial Group, a regulatory and adherence advisory firm for large financial institutions, Ludwig served as the Comptroller of the Currency under President Clinton. Mahan co-founded nCino, established Security Earliest Network Bank, one of the first online banks, and presided over S1 Corporation before founding Live Oak Bancshares, where he now acts as CEO and chairman.

In 2018, George Osborne, Theo Osborne, and David Fisher co-founded 9Yards. One of the G7’s longest-serving finance ministers, George Osborne formerly held the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer for the United Kingdom. Among many other policies that made the UK a leader in the global fintech industry, George created the open banking system and the FCA “sandbox.” George oversaw the UK’s Cybersecurity Committee and served on the National Security Council.
